Facebook Status ~ November 27

Our anniversary often falls on Thanksgiving weekend, so we rarely celebrate it on the actual day. This year, with moving, reuniting with the girls and preparing for Thanksgiving . . . it rather snuck up on us. But my facebook status on that day, says it all.

"I like being married to you, Mr. Childers. Thanks for making me Mrs. Childers . . . 33 years ago today. Love, the former Miss Johnson"

Happy anniversary, babe!

Thankful . . . on Thanksgiving

We have been in our new home for 11 days, and we have been working like crazy people to get settled. Each day sees much more progress.

We enjoyed a lovely weekend with the girls here for our first holiday in our new home. It was especially sweet, as it is the first Thanksgiving we have all been together in five years.

We have business company coming in this Friday . . . so great motivation to try and get everything done and some Christmas decorations up, as well.

Full of gratitude and gratefulness this Thanksgiving, as reflected by the decorations in our new (very old and cool) built in hutch.

"Give thanks always" is the great reminder embroidered in the black frame.

HELP . . .

Moving day ~ round two ~ has come and gone. Our moving company was late, so the entire move was done in the dark. But they were fast and chipper. The last box was carried in at 11:30 p.m. We fell asleep about 5 minutes after they left. And this is what we woke up to the next morning. . .

(That first morning, Dave was attempting to make our morning cup of tea. He asked me for a spoon to stir his tea with. I had no idea where the silverware was, but for some odd reason I could find a melon baller. Did you know a melon baller makes a great tea spoon, in a pinch?)

Moving day . . . AGAIN.

Tomorrow is moving day . . . again. We are excited to be in our new apartment and begin settling before Thanksgiving. This across town move will be easier than the across the country move we made just two weeks ago.

I am a "live in the moment" person, so it really feels like this condo is our home. We have enjoyed being here and created some great memories in two short weeks. Can I just say, it is good that we are moving further away from the amazing Jewish bakery up the street and Metropolis coffee shop. We are also moving closer to the girls.

I have my drawings all made . . . each room and where all the furniture will be placed. I am looking forward to downsizing a bit more after we settle. (I have way too many dishes.) Sometime, I will count the number of mugs we own. (We are the beverage family after all.)

So, Wednesday morning we will be having our morning tea and quiet time, overlooking the beautiful tree lined street of our new home. (If we can find one of those many boxes of mugs, that is.)

I will share the settling in journey here on my blog, with lots of photos. We are still making decisions about which internet option we will be using (so confusing), so if I am off line again for a few days . . . that is why.

"By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established. By knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches." Proverbs 24:3-4

An Adventure With A Surprise Ending

The past few weeks have been wildly crazy and fun. On October 29, we packed our huge 26 foot Penske truck and left early the next morning (after fixing a sudden flat on my car.)  Many friends helped us to get off and same friends made us cry at saying our goodbyes.

Four great days of travel followed with beautiful weather and great companions. My dear friend, Heidi drove the first leg to Spokane, then we picked up my sister, Sue (a surprise for the girls). Dave's good friend Wes drove with us, too. We had early mornings and long drives, but lots of good chats and laughter to keep us busy. The trip went really fast. (Seattle, WA to Billings, MN to Dickinson, ND to Minneapolis, MN and finally to Chicago, IL.)

We reunited with dear friends in Minneapolis for a quick and short visit.

We were just coming up on mile 2,000 with just 80 miles to go, when we received a call that the condo we were renting had just sold. We could stay for one month. Our friend, Kae, called to say . . . sounds like an adventure with a surprise ending.

The wonderful moving company, Move-tastic, moved us in. Sue and Dave and I made quick decisions on making a temporary home (even put up fall decorations.)

Thursday, my, Rich flew in and we all spent Friday looking for apartments. Saturday was a wonderful visit Chicago day (Lou Mitchells for breakfast, the lighting of the Christmas tree at Macys, Sue's first el ride and first Chicago hot dog etc.) and then more goodbyes on Sunday morning. Then another day of apartment shopping (a first for us).

We have found a wonderful vintage apartment (built in hutch etc.) and we have move-tastics all lined up to help us move AGAIN, this Tuesday.

Hope to be settled well before we celebrate Thanksgiving together . . . with Christy and Jenny. (I am a happy mom.)

Amidst all the chaos, Dave has begun his new job as Regional Mission Director for WorldVenture. We are also having fun exploring our temporary neighborhood in a Pakistani neighborhood right next to a Jewish neighborhood.

Someday soon . . . I will begin my regular blogging. Can't wait. Thanks for your prayers on our journey.
