Christmas can be so
wonderful
stressful
delightful
exhausting
perfect
and sometimes, all of the above.
This Christmas, I want to do a short series ... my gift to you, my sweet readers. My Christmas series will have four parts:
1. Silent night ~ my ideas for enjoying some quiet moments this season.
2. Holy night ~ my ideas for embracing the gift of Christ this season.
3. All is calm ~ my ideas for keeping your sanity this season.
4. All is bright ~ my ideas for enjoying the fun of this season.
At this wonderful time of the year, my mind can go a little crazy ... because I love ideas.
Remember, you do not have to be overwhelmed by ideas, or let them make you feel guilty.
Ideas can be fun, if you evaluate each one for your family, stage of life, energy level etc. (See, I even have ideas about ideas.)
Here are three proper responses to my (or Pinterest, your favorite blogger, or your mom.in.law's) ideas:
1. "I love that idea." Take the idea and use it, because it works for you, just as it is.
2. "I hate that idea." If you know an idea will not work for you, your kids, your house, your schedule - say no to the idea. No guilt, just forget it and move on.
3. "This idea is intriguing to me, but is not quite right." Make changes to this idea. Adapt it to be shorter, longer, less expensive, easier, more complicated etc. Then it will be just right for you.
Get the idea? :-)
Well, I am off to write down these ideas that are swirling around my head ... before I forget them. I will be back soon to share them with you.

What a great idea for a series! Great advice when getting ideas from the web and from well-meaning family and friends. When we feel compelled to take everyone's advice, I think we end up so very stressed. I love your admonition to just move on without guilt if an idea is just not right!
ReplyDeleteI'm eagerly awaiting your ideas--whether I use them or move on without guilt--I shall treasure them.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie

ReplyDeleteI'm excited to read your ideas. You always have such good ones! I'm feeling some stress this year because I have some writing to finish up (hopefully this week). Shopping is almost done and I can focus on sewing and wrapping.
ReplyDeleteOh Wonderful!!!! Can't wait to read more. I could use some practical ways to
ReplyDeleteplan better during this time.
Glenda, you always have the best ideas, tips, suggestions. I don't have the same kind of stress at Christmas other folks have. I make most of my gifts, send fruit to the rest and only put up wreaths and creches for decorations. No guilt here; it's a wasteful emotion.
ReplyDeleteI love your ideas....will be thrilled to read more!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your wonderful ideas!! Blessings.
ReplyDeleteI love this Glenda, so helpful. My problem is often that I have TOO many ideas and I have to somehow shut them off so that I can live life with my priorities in proper perspective! So many times my brain is just flooded with ideas and I have to tell myself STOP! :)
