Day 23 - 29 ~ Mini vacation in Door County

Right in the middle of my 31 day blogging series and my 28 day clean eating detox ~ we decided to take  some time away from the city and head to Door County, WS for a few days.

Not exactly the best timing for me, but I never miss an opportunity to hang out with my adventuresome husband. Dave is the quintessential tour guide.

Before we even left home, he had already scoped out the best coffee shops along the way. (my one and very fun concession to vacation and detox)

This picture just makes me very happy.

Door Country is a beautiful peninsula in Wisconsin, with over 300 miles of shoreline. We enjoyed all of it. Beautiful parks, lots of water and gorgeous trees. We went the week after the peak season, to avoid crowds.

When we were on this hike, I kept saying, "we are NOT in Chicago."

So much fun being together ...

We are very wimpy in the drinking department, so we split a wine tasting. (really) And because of the detox, I only had a tiny sip. And Dave did not finish any of them. (I am sure the hostess thought we were nuts)

We also stopped in Green Bay, so Dave could greet one of childhood heros,

and, do the lambo leap.

We figured out that if we timed our drive home, we would arrive in Chicago just in time to hear one of my favorite writers, Jan Karon, speak. Miss Karon was southern, charming, very funny and shared her love for Jesus.

It is always hard to come home from a vacation, even a short one. But we came home to this charming next door neighbor. Yup, that helps.

When was the last time you got away?

  1. It's been a LONG time since I've been to Door County but it is a beautiful spot. I love all your pictures. Not quite as far as Door Country, but hubs and I are soon headed to Kohler, WI for a little getaway!

  3. Thanks for sharing about your getaway! I love the idea of making coffee an important part of your journeys...:)
The last time I got away was last week when I took a few days off to see Colonge, Germany. I met a friend there and played a tourist after studying for a long time. So much needed!

  5. What beautiful photos--I've never heard of Door Country before! And you and your husband are just too cute :). My husband isn't much into coffee, but I do enjoy spending time with him--it's soothing and relaxing to get away for awhile with a loved one, isn't it?!

  7. We got away earlier this past summer and went to a local spa - unfortunately our time got cut short dealing with a child care situation but it was delightful while we were out! :) Your trip looks delightful! Reminds me of New England in the fall!

  12. Beautiful! The two of you - and the scenes along the way. The last time I got away was for my Girlfriend's Campout in September. My dear, little mother had eye surgery a week ago and we won't be free to go away together until near the holidays because of her care and medications. I'm plotting and planning and hoping and dreaming of our next get-away. Thanks for sharing yours.

  13. Yes - so, so wonderful to take mini-vacations together! Gary and I had a great few days together in Colorado Springs mid-October ... we attended a Cru conference for three days, and chose to stay on for a few more days, just the two of us. Both the conference and the extra days were just what we needed - so thankful! Your time away together sounds like it was a memorable, restful time - happy for you, Glenda! Just love times away together ...
