Day 4 ~ My best tip for taking kids to museums

Since my girls were babies, we tented around Europe every summer, with hundred of high school students. You can only imagine the countries we have visited and the museums I have taken (drug) Christy and Jenny through.

Before our first summer, I read everything I could get my hands on about traveling to Europe with kiddos. And this is the best tip I ever read about taking kids to a museum.

Step one: Start in the gift shop. Go to the postcard section and have each of your kids pick out their favorite 2 or 3 postcards.

Step two: Go on a treasure hunt through the museum with your kids hunting for the picture or display to match their postcards.

Step three: When you are finished, and all the other parents are now in the gift shop fighting with their kids about all the trinkets they want to buy, you say to your kids, "we already went to the gift shop." And head to the museum snack shop and order a cup of tea.

Believe me, I know what I am talking about. This is so much fun.

Any favorite travel with kids tips?

  1. Can you compile all of your tips in a book? I imagine my copy very dog-eared.

  6. LOVE this!! I still have time to use it with my 16 and 12 year old. When we go to museums they are usually dragging me because I love to spend time reading about everything and they are only visual. When we went to the Smithsonian Museums in DC, we did about 3 museums a day! Thanks for the wonderful tip and visiting my blog!
