Hospitality ... 4 year old style

Conversation with my downstairs neighbor, who is about to turn 4.

e: I am going to have a princess cake for my birthday.

me: Are you having princess napkins?

e: No, the napkins are going to be batman.

me: A princess cake and batman napkins???

e: There are going to be boys there, Glenda.

A true picture of hospitality.

A Few Thoughts on Parenting Now That I am a Grandma

This morning, Lillian and I went out for a walk and coffee.

We let her cute mama come along, as well.

The coffee shop was mama and baby central.

As Jenny and I were enjoying an iced Americano, one of the busy moms with two kids, smiled at Lily (just sitting there so calmly) and said to Jenny, "just wait, you only have a little more time til it gets crazy."

Jenny has asked me many questions since Lillian was born, four months ago. My answer is often that I do not remember. It is ages since our girls were little.   But this morning, I remembered this ... my parenting philosophy.

A little philosophy from a parent/grandma:

*Each stage of parenting is a little different

*Each stage has it pros and cons

*Each stage offers good things and hard
            things

          *Each stage offers unique opportunites
that will not come around again

Therefore ...

*pay attention. enjoy. pray. cry. celebrate.
be intentional. ask for help. learn. be
            present.

Once that stage of over ... it is gone.

Grant Fink and the Lake County Captains

My sister, Sue and her husband, Rich have been visiting from Spokane. We four have been friends for so many years and love hanging out together.

We celebrated July 4th, a belated birthday lunch for Sue and of course, this ...

meeting Lillian

Then it was time to get away from the city for a wee bit. We headed to South Bend, IN, taking our time to enjoy some fun spots along the way.

Do you know what famous university is in South Bend? Here is a little clue.

"touchdown jesus"

The main purpose for our trip was baseball. Not just any baseball, but the Lake County Captains. Our nephew, Grant Fink, plays for this single A minor league team. (go, grant)

And boy, did he play.

Grant's two game total included: 3 singles, 3 doubles, a home run and 4 RBI's. He had 7 hits in 9 at bats.

Grant sweetly called me, "good luck charm Glenda." But I know I had nothing to do with it. (although I do pray for him often) It is his years of hard work and skill. He is known to be a player with integrity, too. That makes this aunt proud.

Go, Lake County Captains. Go, Grant.
